St. Cyril School is leading the charge to transform education so that all children receive the education they need to be successful in college, leadership, and life. In this new millenium, an important part of this education includes becoming a better citizen of the planet. St. Cyril School is demonstrating that everyone, schools included, can do a better job of reducing greenhouse gasses.
The school's focus on environment include:
- St. Cyril Power Plant - The school now creates solar energy! St Cyril School is proud to be a leader in not only reducing energy, but actually contributing energy back to the grid. The school installed an array of solar panels and is now a fully functioning Power Plant! You can see specifics, like our daily and monthly energy and CO2 offset, by visiting the Sunny Portal.
- Paperless File System - In the past, every week a large amount of paperwork was sent home to hundreds of families in the community. This will be reduced tremendously with the move to an online electronic file system. The Family Envelope, as it has been traditionally called, is now online and already saving natural resources.
- Recycling our desks, books, unused items-St. Cyril donates our gently used books, desks etc., to less fortunate schools. Our students enjoy having a helping hand in giving back.
St. Cyril School is committed to the environment and working to produce 1/2 of our required electricity from our own solar panel system. St. Cyril School teachers and staff are making a difference in the community with programs to recycle, reduce waste, save energy, and conserve resources. Besides the long-range benefits of good environmental stewardship, green policies help provide healthier surroundings for the students and staff.
