Parent FAQs PDF Print E-mail

Most if not all of the questions or issues can be answered or are contained as policies in the Parent/Student Handbook and/or in the family envelope that is distributed each week.  Following are a select few:

What do I do if my child is going to be absent?

If your child is going to be absent, please be sure to call the office no later than 8:30 a.m. on each day of his/her absence.

Can I get my child's homework if he/she is absent?

As of November 2009, parents may not ask for homework to be set aside for their child.  When the child returns to school, they may have an extra time (teacher's discretion) to complete their missing work.

What do I do if my child has a doctor’s (or other) appointment?
If a student has an appointment scheduled during school hours, parents need to write a note to his/her teacher to advise of the time he or she needs to be excused so that the teachers can forward the information to the office.  In the event the child is to be taken early, he/she can be dismissed to the office and be ready to leave. This is particularly helpful in the event the class is out of the classroom and prevents the office staff from having to track the student(s) down.

What can I do if my child forgets his/her lunch?
If a child forgets his/her lunch or snack, he or she cannot use the office phone to call home for one.  They will be instructed to check the lunch table to make sure one was not ordered for them and if not, they will be instructed to share with a friend or use the share table.  It is always a good idea to provide your child with a small amount of money to use for emergencies so that they can purchase something from the snack shack in the event of a forgotten or missed lunch.  Forgotten lunches can always be dropped off at the school office prior to lunch.

How can I get a message to my child?
The office will not interrupt your child’s classroom(s) to advise him or her of non urgent matters (i.e. missed/replaced lunches, snacks, after school care, athletic updates, forgotten items, etc).

What happens if I do not pick up my child right after school?
Should you be late picking up your child(ren), he/she will automatically go to Daycare until you are able to pick him/her up. You do not need to call the office to inform your child.  The office does not interrupt classrooms to make daycare announcements. Unless you are otherwise enrolled in daycare, you will be charged $10 per child per day for daycare.  You may enter school thru the office until 3:30, or the Firmament gate from 2:30 to 6:00.

What is considered tardy?
School begins at 7:45. Children will be counted as tardy if they are not seated in their classroom when the last bell rings (7:50 a.m. unless otherwise notified). If students are on campus but not seated in the classroom, they will be counted tardy.

What do I do if my child is ill?
If your child is ill, please do not bring them to school.  If you are called by office personnel to pick up your child due to illness, please make appropriate arrangements to have your child picked up.  Children are not to be in school with a fever 100 degrees or above and may not return to school until 24 hours after being fever-free for 24 hours without medication. If the child has been vomiting, they must remain home until 24 hours after they last vomited.  Please be respectful of other children and families.

What is the Family Envelope?
Family Envelopes are distributed to the teacher of a Family’s eldest child on Monday afternoon, (with the exception of a school holiday, in which case it would be the next school day).  Contents of the family envelope are to be reviewed and the envelope signed and returned to the office no later than Thursday of the same week.  If the envelope is not returned by Thursday, a $10 Fee will be charged.

How do I get my event flyer into the Family Envelope?

The deadline to submit flyers is 9:00 Thursday morning. (A day earlier for shortened weeks) All submissions must be approved by Mr. Muir.  The easiest way to submit your flyer is by email. This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it  If your flyer is submitted in time and approved, it will be featured in the following week's family envelope.

How do I send in payments for requests, field trips, events, after school clubs, etc.?

You may send all payments in the Family Envelope.  Please include a separate check for each thing you are paying for, with note in the memo.  Do not combine payments, as each request, field trip, event etc., is deposited separately and accordingly for book-keeping purposes. Thank you for your help with this!
